Historic Fort Wayne is located in Detroit at Jefferson and Livernois. It is a five point star fort that original was going to have the most up to date artillery placed in it. America's improved relationship with Britain made the need for this type of fort across from Canada obsolete before it was even finished. It was then changed to an infantry garrison fort. Since then the Fort has played many roles in history. It has served as an induction center for Michigan troops in every conflict from the Civil War to Vietnam.
All of this great Michigan history has been falling apart because not enough people cared. That has started to change since the Historic Fort Wayne Coalition began. This group has had great success but still has a long fight ahead.
